The legal services sector is undergoing profound change. Swathes of activity currently undertaken by solicitors will transfer to new providers with different cost bases, muscular marketing plans and indifference to tradition. More law firms will end up as specialists but many smaller or mid-tier firms will find it hard to hold their own, never mind compete effectively. Those that do succeed will have stopped thinking like lawyers and learned to apply the principles of business to their activities. Success lies in meeting changing client needs with value propositions.
